The design of the equipment used in NUTEC Bickley's Tundish Preheaters and Heaters integrates the following concepts to create a state-of-the-art system:

  • Use of nozzles that create gas recirculation and allow for uniform drying of the load and more efficient convective heat transfer.
  • A combustion system with individual burner ignition features an independent gas line for each burner with a fine adjustment valve, atomization air, diesel line for quick fuel change, and solenoid shut-off valve.
  • Lid movement is hydraulic, and process control is managed by a panel equipped with a flame failure safety system.

Tundish dryers play a critical role in safeguarding the integrity of the casting process. They achieve this by meticulously drying the refractory lining of the tundish before operation. This drying process, conducted at a moderate temperature range of 570-600°F (300-320°C), ensures the refractory bricks retain their optimal properties, maximizing their performance and lifespan.
